“Element is a floor-to-ceiling photographic installation in the art centre’s Black Box, consisting of a collage of small landscape photographs that in tandem create a sweeping panorama of Northern Norwegian nature. Photographic manipulation and skewed perspectives serve to create an irrational and dreamlike vision of a wilderness that is both beautiful and unforgiving, both physical and emotional. Tollefsen reminds us that a viewer is also an element in the landscape – and that our impression of nature is shaped by complex subjective experiences.” (From the North Norwegian Art Centre’s presentation)
